A little TLC...

Last week was a rather strange one for me, 

as both Mr Mc and teen Paperdoll were of gallivanting
across Europe at the same time.  

I’m very used to Mr Mc being away for long periods of time, 

in exotic locations half way across the world, so nothing new there.  

Teen Paperdoll also has traveled in the past without us,
but both at the same time on 

different ends of the Continent was a new one for me.

 

After packing a “CARE” parcel with home-made goodies
for teen Paperdoll’s long bus journey and a early morning start,
baby Paperdoll and I were left in a rather quiet house!!

Perfect time to get busy in baby Paperdoll’s room!!! 
It never cease to amaze me how much “treasure” the Paperdolls can gather. 
For me (a treasure LOVER) there is a very....
very fine line between treasure and clutter. 

Not surprising the Paperdolls and I differ on what is what. 
“PLEASE de-clutter me” baby Paperdoll’s room had been shouting at me
and to be perfectly honest I had been ignoring it for a while.
But it needed doing so no better time than the present.  

My fears over long arguments with baby Paperdoll
on what can stay and what has to go were completely unfounded
and she was fab, it went so smooth we actually had a lot of fun
reminiscing over toys & books I was surprised
how many early detailed memories she has.  

Baby Paperdoll was more ruthless in de-cluttering then I would have been.
Whilst de-cluttering I noticed the wooden toy shop
which she had inherited from teen Paperdoll was very loved 

and needed a bit of TLC to bring it back to its former glory. 
So de-cluttering turned into revamping (which I love)!!!

 With a little paint....
some spray glue....labels made on the mac....fabric & draw knobs

  

       old transformed into.... almost new

         drab new into.... colourful new     

As soon as I finished with the room, baby Paperdoll was having a Tea party.  
I'm not sure how much longer Baby Paperdoll will play like that, 

as she is much closer to her teen than baby years.  

But I really hope we have a few more years yet of watching her
being the Dolly’s Mum 

it’s so delightful to watch and makes me giggle every time.

             

The week over, the traveller's found there way back home
and with them has returned the normal  hustle & bustle to our house,
quiet is lovely for a time but to much of it can be somewhat deafening!!!

Goodness......... we are at the end of March already!!
 Not that a look out of my window will tell you that.
My....my.... at the beginning of the month
I had made so many plans what I like to do this month,
well truthfully only few have been started & even less have been finished!
That is the problem with me and my plans,
they work great in my head but never as good in practice.  

But here is hoping for Aprils plans!

All that is left for me to say for today

Grey sky blessing....

I was just getting into the spring spirit,
decorating the house for Easter
thinking about taking my bike for it’s first spin of the year.
GREAT spring is finally here!!!! 
Ohhhh.... how wrong was I. 

SHOCK HORROR, winter has come back with a vengeance.  

Don’t get me wrong 

I really like a cold crisp winters day & snow 

but ONLY in winter and winter ends for me at the end of February, 

after all four months are long enough.  

With temperatures well below freezing, 

the sun in hiding and nothing we can do about it.

The best thing for me is to snuggle up with my Paperdolls, 

under a throw putting on an old movie enjoying a hot drink and 

catch up with a crochet project that has been a little neglected.

Last year I made my first patchwork quilt 
with my favourite retro children’s fabrics, 
as I was making it I thought it would be big enough 
for all of us to snuggle under, 
but it turns out not to be the case.  
So in order to stop the constant pulling 
and tagging from the Paperdolls and Mr Mc 
for the biggest piece, I started to crochet a throw in January.  
At first I was planning to go with a more traditional 
Granny Square design, but then I came across 
a lovely 3D Rose effect, Babushka Rose from http://www.sewingdaisies.com.au/.   
Choosing colours that complement the quilt, 
every night little by little I was working my way 
through the squares.  
But over the last couple of weeks 
I was sooooo busy getting my head round this blog thing,
that I really couldn’t focus much on anything creative.

The squares have been lying in my disused cake tin a little abandoned.

Opening the tin today was so nice,
as on a grey day it was a real lovely burst of colour.
With Rock Hudson & Gina Lollobrigida in
 Come September turning up the temperature on screen
the Paperdolls giggles & laughter echoing through the room,
even the grey-est day can be filled with sunshine.  

So maybe the grey sky was after all a blessing in disguise.

Welcome back....

I’m still practicing and nowhere near perfect with my blog,
but with the sun making a rare appearance on Sunday
I decided it was time to come out of hibernation.
Mr Mc and I thought a trip to a nearby Flea Market would be fun,
to the “delight” of our Paperdolls. 

The Paperdolls objections brought back so many memories of my childhood,
spending many a weekends on Flea Markets watching my parents
looking for the next treasure, or more to the point, trash they could turn into treasure.
This was long before it was hip or even trendy to do so
and little did my parents know at the time how popular it would become.
Well my Mum and Dad were way ahead, but to be very honest
my parents never cared much for trends anyway,
preferring to make there own eclectic style.
As a teenager that seemed so uncool to me, but now I appreciate it all the more.
My Mum had the eye for the treasure and my Dad definitely the haggling skills,
together making a great team!
They may not always have agreed, on what was treasure and what trash,
a little like Mr Mc and me, but how does the saying go
“ones trash is another’s treasure” or something like that,
but sooooooo true!
Looking back at those weekends they were lots of fun and
I learned a great deal from them.
On Sunday however I was not just on a aimless search for any old treasure,
I was after a very specific kind of treasure.
Vintage china & tablecloths to be precise.
Last summer I had the idea to open a Vintage Tearoom at our local annual Highland Games.
For one day only, just for fun, all the proceeds going to a charity project.
It was very popular and fabulous fun!!
  This story will have to wait for my next update as its getting rather late!
Just enough time to mention that this weekends treasure was a chandelier
and a beautiful hand embroidered tablecloth.
